...5 Very Recommended Movies
Choosing five favorite movies is extremely difficult so I have decided just to recommend a few of my all-time faves:
1. Hable Con Ella (Talk to Her) - 2002 - Director: Pedro Almodovar
I love this movie because it is visually exquisite, the music is haunting, and the story touches your heart in a very non-Hallmark way. It creates a truly lovely space where the characters are genuinely vulnerable.
2. Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In The Mood For Love) - 2000 - Director: Wong Kar-Wai
I love this film because it is a complexly told simple story about a man and his neighbor. The cinematography is achingly beautiful, the music stays with you, and the acting is supreme. This is the film that made me interested in film.
3. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou - 2004 - Director: Wes Anderson
This film is hilarious, colorful, and touching. One of my favorite parts is the David Bowie music played throughout the film in Portuguese by Seu Jorge. This film is great when you need a little something special.
4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 2004 - Director: Michel Gondry
Aside from being creatively filmed, “Eternal Sunshine” is full of moments that contain elements of truth. It is poignant and awkward while at the same time carrying a sense of realistic optimism. Gondry is one of my favorite directors for his low-budget in-camera special effects.
5. Deer Hunter - 1978 - Director: Michael Cimino
I can sum up this film’s greatness in two words: early De Niro. A gripping story about blue collar buddies who go to Vietnam with great performances by Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep. This film is simply amazing.
